PEA Attacked After Issuing Parking Ticket

ChiCafe logo

According to reports from the Chicago Sun-Times and NBC 5, allegedly a Department of Revenue employee was punched in the face after issuing a parking ticket to the vehicle of a Chinatown restaurant Friday evening.

The alleged attacker, Tie Lee, is the co-owner of Chi Cafe at 2160 S. Archer Ave. He was arrested for “felony aggravated battery to a government employee,” according to the news reports.

If the allegations are true, the attacker could get some prison time for not just for aggravated battery, but additional time for attacking a government employee.

Look, parking tickets might make you furious, but don’t be a moron.

Do NOT take it out on the ticket writer. That means verbally or physically.

If you think the ticket is improper or unfair, your way to fight back is to contest the ticket–not assault the ticket writer.

If you think getting a $50 ticket is bad, spending time behind bars is a helluva lot worse.

    Sissy for hitting a female.

  2. DoR Employee says:

    The allegations are true.

    She had 2 witnesses…..Tie Lee came up from behind her as she was helping 2 people that had never used a pay box before….she turned around and he rammed the palm/heal of his hand into her face.

    The detectives that responded from the Wentworth station actually attempted to convince the PEA that it wasn’t that serious, since she wasn’t bruised.

    It took a direct call from the PEA to her sister……..whom is the Admin Assistant PO to the Commander of 19……who then called the Lt of the shift…..who then reamed the asshole detective and told them to do their damn job.

    I talked to the PEA yesterday by phone once I found out who it was that got assaulted.

  3. DoR Employee says:

    Oh…..no one wants to park around that area for some time.

    It is probably going to have some of the heaviest PEA coverage you’ve ever seen. We will be looking at every car around there at being 100% anal retentive about municipal violations.

  4. Pete says:

    I can understand an increase in PEA coverage, DoR. But, PEAs are going to “punish” (rather, enforce _all_ the laws on) people who had nothing to do with this incident?

  5. The Parking Ticket Geek says:

    All I keep thinking is, what the hell is wrong with that guy?!?

    STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

    From your description DoR, the PEA actually sounds pretty nice and helpful. I’ve run into a few PEAs that are stand offish when you ask questions (politely let me say) and others who are very friendly and open to a polite question.

  6. DoR Employee says:

    Pete…….

    I said that we are going to be 100% anal retentive around that area.

    That area of town is probably going to get no breaks, no courtesy, Just Enforcement..for some time.

  7. DoR Employee says:

    Mike………get her post off.

    That is way too much info for an Open Forum.

  8. Ldypea says:

    take a chill…..pill…dor…..i wouldnt…..let….xxxxxx…send me there…..anyway…..that area…..sucks….

  9. Optimus Prime says:

    Let me tell you that sometimes these police officers get so close to the citizens of there beat that they refuse to enforce. Im sure the police officers knew the guy who assaulted the helpful PEA. Let me tell you when an off duty officer, who is parked in a bus stop, shows me his badge I look at him and give him the ticket. I tell him stop embarrassing yourself.

  10. Mike says:

    Optimus,

    I hope you give him a chance to move his vehicle before writing an off duty officer or ordinary citizen. Any citizen should get a warning and if not heeded, then ticketed. If the vehicle is unoccupied, ticket away.

  11. DoR Employee says:

    Mike……the warning is the No Parking sign.

    Ldypea’s comment narrows her location to 1 location possible. It needs deleting completely.

  12. Optimus Prime says:

    Mike-
    I was talking about unoccupied vehicles. If you give a citizen a warning for not parking in a bus stop, you know what happens? They continue parking there until they get caught. All ticket writers have encountered the same scofflaws making the same violations. The ticket should be the deterrent.

  13. John Adams says:

    Dang, I was gone this weekend, and didn’t get to see what ldypea wrote.

  14. DoR Employee says:

    PTG…one of the comments I keep hearing about the PEA…

    If she was any sweeter…your teeth would ache.

  15. Optimus Prime says:

    Before the guy hit her, he should of talked to the PEA and resolve his anger over the ticket.

  16. DoR Employee says:

    Optimus….

    Reasonable people that are willing to calmly discuss the ticket they just got are few and far between.

    I see it all the time.

    They try the:

    “Oh…I was only getting my Coffee/Dry Cleaning”

    or;

    “But there was no Bus there when I parked”

    or;

    “I thought we got 15 days grace for plate stickers”

    or;

    “Go the ****** back to your side of town before you get shot”

    or; My personal favorite:

    “Its **insert your favorite holiday season here**”

    or;

    “The economy is hard, why you in this area?”

    The upstanding felon to be either got nailed for Double Parking or for being in a CTA stop.

    100 dollar Fine that just got a million times worse because the person doesn’t understand that it isn’t kosher to hit someone; for any reason.

  17. Mike says:

    To applaud Mr. Lee’s efforts, I shall support his eatery.

  18. DoR Employee says:

    I do believe that place was shut down for Health Code Violations this week.

    Hmm…what a surprise.
