Red light camera roundup is a semi-regular feature where we spotlight all sorts of red light camera news from around Chicagoland.
Daily Herald Exposes Red Speed’s Questionable Tactics
Damn. Marni Pyke of the Daily Herald has been kicking some serious ass in her reporting on the suburban red light camera issues.
This time around, she pens this jaw dropping investigative piece on the too close for comfort relationship big time RLC vendor, RedSpeed, Illinois’ has with many of their municipality clients.
Pyke via the Freedom of Information Act, got her hands on e-mails between RedSpeed and towns like Lombard, Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village. It seems the suburbs number one redlight camera vendor spews an almost constant barrage of PR and propaganda at the municipalities it works with.
Shockingly, despite Pyke’s repeated requests for comment, RedSpeed, normally ceaselessly running it’s mouth to promote RLC, never got back to her.
How odd. They never return any of my calls either. Hmmmm.
Plainfield Installing Two Red Light Cameras
Far west suburban Plainfield has two red light cameras being installed and are scheduled to go online in late November or early December.
According to the Naperville Sun, the cameras will be located at 135th St. and Route 59 and Renwick Road and Route 30.
There’s a third camera planned for Route 126 and Route 59, but there’s a delay because of construction.
Proposed Elgin RLC Site Denied By IDOT
IDOT gave Elgin a thumbs down on their proposed red light camera at Randall Road and Route 72 according to the Daily Herald.
It’s a little confusing as allegedly, the intersection is Kane County’s most dangerous. However, it seems some engineering changes to the intersection has had a dramatic effect on reducing crashes and therefore it’s unnecessary to install a camera there.
Des Plaines Still Researching RLC, No Cameras Until After New Year
Luckily for residents of west suburban Des Plaines, the village is taking its sweet time initiating their red light camera program according to the Des Plaines Journal newspaper.
Cameras won’t be going in until approved by the state, thus delaying RLC installations until after the new year.
RedSpeed Slams On Brakes On Second Park Ridge Camera
The Park Ridge Herald-Advocate is reporting that RedSpeed did a study of the intersection at Devon & Cumberland. It seems it wouldn’t generate enough revenue for them because drivers actually stop at the intersection.
Red Light Cameras Voted Out In Three Towns Nationally
Yesterday was election day in some places in our country. In three towns nationally, they voted on red light camera referendums.
According to photo enforcement watchdog TheNewspaper.com, despite well funded advertising and public relations campaigns by the red light camera industry, all three towns voted to oust red light cameras.
In College Station, Texas voters narrowly voted to terminate the red light camera program in their town.
In Ohio, the town of Heath defeated red light cameras by only 51%, but in Chillicothe 72% of the voters were opposed to RLC.

College Station, Texas camera vendor American Traffic Solutions is a privately held company that does not do media interviews, are they camera shy? But they do secretly fund people coming into a community to stand outside polling places to try and change public opinion. That didn’t work too well for them…

Protect yourself against cameras today
Mike, on Nov. 4th two cities in OH, and one in TX voted out red light ticketing cameras by public referendum. Mentioning this to locals may cause them to see organizing efforts to repeal them will work.
The Parking Meters and RLTCs will be Daley’s snow storm in the next election ala Mike Bilandic. When a politician abuses the public trust, even a Daley, he will be voted out, it the Feds don’t get him first.
