Somebody tell CDOT, City Council to read the 4th amendment and the Supreme Court case law on privacy and cell phones before floating this kind of moronic idea. Not only is it likely unconstitutional, it would be a disaster in practice. An untested device that would likely damage cell phones, erase or corrupt data, and spread viruses/malware/trojans to evdry cell phone it touched. Great idea.

At least with the aldermanic menu, the voters have some control over how funds are spent when they have a ballot. If CDOT is given charge of these funds, they will just spend it on more bike lanes, traffic cameras, and road diets that voters absolutely don’t want.

The real reason that Times Square project is a failure – Native New Yorkers avoid it like the plague, as a tacky, crime-ridden, tourist trap.
