Illinois House Approves Driver’s Licenses For Illegal Aliens

The Illinois House of Representatives voted Tuesday 65-46 to allow undocumented aliens living in the state to obtain an driver’s license.

According to DNA Info Chicago, local politicians like Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Alderman Danny Solis, celebrated the vote at La Casa in Pilsen Tuesday evening.

In order to qualify for the special driver’s license, illegal aliens would have to obtain auto insurance. An estimated 250,000 illegal aliens reside in the state. Illinois will be just the third state in the U.S. to allow licenses for undocumented immigrants joining New Mexico and Washington state in this select group.

The bill was passed in the Illinois state Senate back in December, and Governor Pat Quinn says he plans to sign the bill.
