Standard Parking Awarded City Airport Parking Contract

Standard Parking has been the primary vendor for parking operations at both O’Hare and Midway airports for nearly two decades.

So, it wasn’t much of a surprise that the company was awarded a new five year, $58 million contract to continue running things at both airports according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Standard beat out LAZ Parking, Imperial Parking and CPS Chicago Parking LLC to win the day.

The Sun-Times points out coincidentally, Standard Parking has made contributions to local politicians over $190,000 over the last few years and claims the firm carries a lot of what Chicagoans call “clout.”

While the bid request asked companies to be able to ultimately provide some sort of cell phone application to allow drivers to see the parking inventory available in each lot but also pay by phone, a spokesperson for Standard wouldn’t discuss what improvements the company had planned for O’Hare’s and Midway’s parking environment over the next five years of the contract.

Collectively, Chicago’s airport parking handles around 20,000 cars a day or over 3 million vehicles per year.

I want to know how why the city is continuing the stupidity of Leasing Parking Lots out?

We need the money…we enforce them as it is at Ohare and Midway….Standard can just skip….

Besides…not like CPS and Standard and Mid City and all the rest are not connected at the top.

People think that government is stupid. I have learned it’s not. All one has to do is get a little more data and view any particular thing by thinking about what is in the best interest of those people in the institution of government making the decisions. Not in the best interest of the people. In the best interest of those making the decision. What increases their power, what increases their budgets, what advances their career, what puts more money in their pockets, and so on. At that point government does not seem stupid any more.

B ….at that point…I think a revolution is in order.

How was LAZ Parking even in the running? If Darth Rahm seriously plans to seek arbitration of the disastrous parking meter lease agreement, why is he allowing LAZ to bid for the airport parking contracts? IMHO, this is just further proof of what a duplicitous, lying, crap-weasel we have for a Mayor.

  5. DoR Employee says:

Jeff…Municipalities have to accept all offers. They just get to choose who wins.

LAZ shouldn’t get Any Lots in this city.

And we all knew Rahm was a liar when he tried his residency scam….any other city worker would have been fired for that shit.

  6. Semi-Insider says:

Standard Parking recently closed a major merger with Central Parking. The owners of the parking facilities set the prices, not Standard. Standard manages the facilities for the owners. Standard Parking has been a public company for eight years. My father is the Chief Financial Officer and President of Urban Operations. He is the most honest, thorough and hard working person I have ever known. With my father being in charge of the finances, believe me, Standard is paying all their taxes as well as millions of dollars to the federal government that was required for the merger to take place. Twelve years ago Standard Parking was weeks away from going under, when my father was hired. Standard would not exist today without him. If there is still a problem call 1-312-274-2100 and ask for Marc Baumann.
