Street Cleaning Good Samaritan

Who ever you are, thanks!

Your identity is unknown to us and we’ve never had to actually park on the 4100 block of North Ashland Avenue on a Wednesday or any day for that matter.

But the fact that you took the time to hand draw and post a pair of bright orange paper signs on trees to warn motorists not to park there due to street cleaning every Wednesday is laudable.

We’re confident your signs have saved many an unwary driver from an expensive street cleaning parking ticket. We’re equally confident and happy that your signs have robbed the city of hundreds of dollars of precious revenue from parking tickets that never happened.

On behalf of Chicago drivers everywhere we want to thank you for your generosity of spirit and kindness toward your fellow Chicago driver.

We need more people like you in Chicago.

Wonderful signs. Wanna bet that the next thing that we read is that someone has received a ticket for posting these in an unlawful fashion.

  2. Pete says:

Yep. The city will aggressively send workers around to remove unofficial signs, while neglecting to put up official signs. It’s all for the children, you see.

  3. Capt M-Plate says:

I actually applaud people that do this. It is helpful to the Citizens.

Honestly speaking, PEA’s would love it if we could go through a shift and not find a Single thing to ticket. It would be great if everyone that drove a motor vehicle would always be responsible and attentive to posted restrictions or vehicle compliance.

But alas, that isn’t true in this city.

  4. David says:

Nonsense. A few shifts like that and you would be out of a job. Compliance doesn’t improve with more ticket writers or drop with fewer. The only change is the total number of tickets.

  5. Capt M-Plate says:

    David…

My point is that we would love it if we didn’t find anything to write.

And lets be honest….if it wasn’t for Revenue ticket writers…the only tickets that would ever get issued by City Police would be Street Cleaning, Rush Hour and the Occasional Exp Plate, RPP or City Sticker Ticket depending upon if the District was slow or busy….like 024 or 014

  6. Lynn Stevens says:

I have a sign for each day of the street-cleaning week that I put out as appropriate because the sign posters are pretty stingy with the signs on my block. They’ll put one on the first tree (easily missed when you’re making the turn scoping out a free parking space ahead), skip the next tree (just 25 feet away) and then not another one until the next tree 150 feet later (and sight of that one is blocked by a large bush before it). So I regularly put one up on the in between tree that they omit.

  7. The Parking Ticket Geek says:

Lynn gets The Expired Meter’s “Good Citizen Award” for helping her neighbors avoid street cleaning parking tickets.

Unfortunately, we can’t afford any type of monetary award or a trophy, but hopefully karma will reward you for your very kind efforts Lynn.
