Quinn To Decide On Speed Camera Bill By End Of Month

The end of January.
That’s when Governor Pat Quinn says he’ll make his decision whether to sign or veto Illinois’ speed camera law according to WBEZ radio.

“We’ve done a lot of research on getting information from other cities and other states,” said Quinn. “Anything I do I try to do in a comprehensive manor, and I think that’s important on something like this.”

The law would allow Chicago to utilize its red light camera system to catch drivers exceeding the speed limit at RLC intersections within 1/8 of a mile of a school or park. Fines would range from $50 for speeds of 10 to 15 miles per hour over the posted limit or $100 for 16 miles per hour or more.

If signed by Gov. Quinn, the Chicago City Council would still have to pass the law. The city says it could be issuing speeding tickets by mail as early as the summer.

As reported by this website, revenue generated for the city from the speed camera program would be significant.

Here’s WBEZ’s error ridden story, “Gov. Quinn nearing decision on Chicago speed cameras.”

How about “Just say no!” I have my fingers crossed that he won’t sign it or just veto it altogether. However, I doubt it.

  3. glg says:

@Mike – that’s fine, but if he’s going to do that, then he should have vetoed it 2 months ago. shit or get off the pot.

  4. cr says:

quinn will go down as the worst governor of Illinois that hasn’t gone to prison. all he cares about is staying in office which involves helping his friends(especially public employee unions) and fellow politician. he lied about the state tax increase (said all thru his campaign he would only agree to a 1% increase) he waffles on every major decision he has to make. please, please we need to vote him out next election.

  5. DoR Employee says:

Our Governor never does anything for the Common people….he only does stuff if you are in that top 10% in this state.

Quinn has never missed an opportunity to squeeze more money out of taxpayers. Why would this be any different?

  7. DoR Employee says:

Because it’s for the children Pete?

    /sarcasm

  8. glg says:

@Pete – because this money would go to the city not the state, so it doesn’t help him any.
