Chicago Parking Meter Payboxes Getting Makeover

No, it’s not a re-run of Oprah.

But, Chicago drivers might be surprised by the fashionable new look your parking meter pay boxes are sporting.

According to Vogue, bright greens will be very fashionable for 2012 when parking meter rates go up on January 1st.  It’s probably not a coincidence that green is the color of choice for these meter makeovers since these meters will be pulling more green out of your wallet come New Year’s Day.

But, in all seriousness, this new graphics for the front of parking meter pay boxes are pretty snazzy and do seem to be a bit easier to understand.

Chicago Parking Meters is even looking for input on the redesign. You can call and share your thoughts and comments at 877.242.7901.

So far, it seems only a few machines have the new look. But it is safe to assume all 4600 or so pay boxes will be looking like this over the long run.

  1. Interesting post! The price, availability and access to parking can potentially have a huge influence over the success of local businesses and traders during a recession.

  2. John says:

So along with this makeover, I hear there is a program change that is suppose to activate a time round up feature on all the pay boxes that has gone wrong and now the pay boxes are over charging cutomers when using coins. Not a good thing to happen especially when they are planning yet another rate change this coming January. Way to go LAZ
