Clerk Mendoza Talks City Sticker Sponsorships

City Clerk Susana Mendoza sat down with NBC 5 to talk about her plans to hopefully secure corporate sponsorship for the back of next year’s city stickers.
Mendoza believes city sticker sponsorships could raise $8-$10 million per year, which sounds a bit optimistic. With over a million city stickers being issued every year, that works out to sponsors spending $8 to $10 to reach each driver. It seems other media might be less costly. However, the city sticker and corresponding mailers, etc., is going to be a more intimate way to communicate with drivers.
While Clerk Mendoza says she’s opposed to any increases in the fee for city stickers, she’s fearful that without sponsorship the city council may try to raise the cost of the annual vehicle sticker.

It all sounds good in theory, but her numbers are extremely optimistic. I think US Cellular only pays a couple million a year for naming rights at Comiskey. If she got more then $500k I would be surprised.
I think this idea is ridiculous. Who the hell is she to put city mandated advertising on MY car.
Will the regulations specify that it is “improper display” to cover the ad? And will they accept an ad for the next incarnation of “Girls Gone Wild: Chicago Style”?
It won’t work. There is Municipal Code Mandated Information on the back of each city sticker. She would be breaking rules that she actually has no legal right to alter.
