City Clerk Susana Mendoza Shows Drivers How To Get That Darn Sticker Off Your Windshield

With Chicago city sticker season coming to an end, The Expired Meter thought it might be helpful to readers to produce an instructional video on how to get last year’s city sticker off your windshield.

We tried to find an expert on this matter so we contacted the Chicago City Clerk’s office–the city agency in charge of selling the 1.3 million city stickers sold every year to see if City Clerk Susana Mendoza could help us out.

Clerk Mendoza had previously extolled her sticker removing talents, so we thought we’d see if she would be kind enough to share her skills on camera.

Originally, we tried to have the Clerk remove the city sticker from her personal car. But the big hail storm a few weeks ago really hit her Little Village neighborhood hard and put her personal vehicle out of commission. The golf ball sized hail gave her Toyota Prius about 100 dents and broke her back windshield, with the damage coming in over $8000.

So one of Mendoza’s staff members lent us their car to allow her to show off her method for getting that darn sticker off your windshield. With just a bottle of Windex, a razor blade, some paper towels and a little elbow grease, Mendoza has the city sticker off in a jiffy.

Get some paper, a pen and get ready to take some notes.

I still can’t understand why the heck we are not supposed to use sticker shield. I will use it anyway, the way I affix it its impossible to tell. Still, I wish I didn’t have to worry that some PEA with superhuman vision will one day leave me with a bright orange gift…

Thanks! This was actually quite helpful.

  3. Pete says:

Starting next year, PEAs will be issued microscopes so they can detect the presence of sticker shields. The city is broke, you see. They need every extra dime they can get.

You don’t need more than basic Eyesight to see that stuff.

You don’t get a ticket for it from us because Dept Director Godzilla doesn’t think we should Nit Pick the Municipal Code.
