2 Major Downtown Street Closures Start Tuesday
Downtown commuters, get ready to wait a little longer than normal in traffic starting Tuesday morning, July 5th.
Two major street closures due to road construction will kick off downtown to add more frustration to morning and afternoon commutes.
Madison Street
The first one is in the Loop and is part of the Revive the Drive, Wacker Drive rehab project.
As the project moves south along Wacker Drive starting Tuesday, Madison St. will be closed from Canal St. to Franklin, along with Wacker closing from north of Monroe St. to south of Washington St.
The good news is, Washington is now reopened to all traffic after being closed since January. Upper Wacker from Lake to Randolph also reopened as of last Thursday, June 30th.
Ontario Street
The other project is just north of downtown in River North.
The Chicago Department of Transportation will start a resurfacing project on Ontario Street which runs from State St to Orleans St.
Ontario, the main drag for the River North area is four lanes. CDOT will be closing two lanes at a time, while allowing two lanes to remain open.
Of course, parking restrictions will be in place along the street.
This project is expected to finish by the end of July.
