Police Warn Of Lakefront Car Break-Ins

Don’t leave valuables in your car in plain view.

A rash of 10 reported car break-ins along park district parking lots located along the lakefront from Addison to Foster this last month, have prompted the Chicago Police Department to issue a public warning to drivers according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Most break-ins have centered around the parking lots near Montrose Harbor.

Thieves have been rifling through glove boxes, trunks and car interiors searching for valuables. CPD recommends not keeping any valuables in the car, keeping your wallet or credit cards on your person and to call Belmont Area detectives at 312-744-8263 if you have any leads.

Our advice is to drive your crappiest heap of junk, beater of a car if you want to visit the lakefront, leave nothing in the car and leave your vehicle unlocked.

No one ever screws with a 1976 Pacer or a 1982 Impala with body riddled with rust and Bondo patches.
