Construction Season In Illinois Could End Early Due To State Funding Issues
All Illinois state road and highway construction projects could grind to a halt as early as June 17th, just weeks into the construction season, unless state house and senate members can come to some agreement on capital construction funding.
According to Crain’s Chicago Business, the funding which is scheduled to expire June 30th, will stop these road projects because the Illinois Department of Transportation will have to start laying off nearly 31,000 construction workers starting on June 17th.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn’s office says members of the state house and senate left Springfield last week without any agreement on this funding is the reason why and may call the state legislature back into session to address this issue.
