The man with the classic car kept in the garage should have just not paid that ticket. I’d love to see the city try to take someone to court with such a ludicrous case. He should sue them for extortion.
I watched the thing. It was one of the better pieces of fluff that is pretending to be a news item.
“helps a driver ticketed while his car was parked in a garage in the suburbs” Where did she help, besides publicize his case?
Tips? Letters from aldermen! Good luck if you are from the suburbs.
Photos? In the case of the Corvette owner, WHAT photos?
And, no mention of the problems of fighting by mail!
And worst of all, NO MENTION OF THE GEEK!!!!
If he received a violation for Tinted Windows, he should of submitted photos showing he did not have tints on his front windshield or driver/passenger side windows. There is no mention of photos on the violation. If there is no proof he had tints and he provided photos the ticket should get dismissed. The best explanation for him receiving ticket is that the ticket writer put in the wrong plate number. A wrong single digit can send it to someone else.
Optimus, lets remember one thing….
TMA and CPD don’t take photos…only PEA’s and Ser Co do.
Management wants us to cite tinted windows if we have difficulty seeing the steering wheel or if there is more than 6 inches of Tint on the windshield or if the Tint applied to the Drivers/Passenger side windows is third party applied Film.
It’s not something we just whip out.
One other point…
While the State Law on Tint allows up to 30 or 35% as I recall…
Due to the way the State Constitution is written, the City of Chicago is Legally allowed to enforce a Zero % tolerance. 1979 Home Rule amendment as I recall.
I’m just saying that an explanation sometimes doesn’t cut it……people need Proof.
Did the original citation include the color, year, make and model of the alleged offending vehicle? If only a plate number is written and the city computer fills in the rest of the citation this rationalizes great error opportunities by one errant digit.
The city of Chicago does not care a tinker’s (deleted) about anything other than $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for any sort of traffic enforcement. They know that most people will not fight hard enough to win, and the truth of any citations is utterly irrelevant to the city officials. Another glaring example is the predatory use of red light cameras with yellow intervals that are deliberately set too short and less safely, so as to increase camera ticket revenue. The entire system of traffic enforcement in Chicago is corrupt. James C. Walker, National Motorists Association, http://www.motorists.org, Ann Arbor, MI
Doc..
The Citation only requires Plate and Manufacturer.
Color and Year? Model?
Oh…I see….you mean does the computer used to write tickets auto enter information with just a plate number entered…
Nope…the writer enters that Info. Computer or handwritten ticket…its done Manually.
If we run into that rare vehicle that isn’t easily ID’d….we run the plate through S.O.S and they tell us what the type of vehicle.
And Mr Walker has the distinct pleasure of living in a College Town that has regional and city police agencies that Need Ticket Revenue to support their budget.
Thanks Capt.
