ALERT!: Critical Mass Bike Ride Tonight
If you’re caught in traffic early this evening because a seemingly infinite number of of bike riders are crossing the intersection, blame Critical Mass.
Critical Mass is the monthly massive bike ride which takes several thousand bicyclists on a chaotic ride throughout the city the last Friday of every month.
With the weather warming up, this should be a much larger turnout than the previous winter months. So be prepared to wait a long time if you get caught.
The “Mass” starts downtown from Daley Center at 5:30 PM.
If you do get stuck, just put the car in park, recline your seat and wave to all the happy bike riders screaming “Happy Friday!”

Screw Crit Mass.
Their own website describes themselves as a Protest Group.
That presumes they have Permits for this Monthly “Event?”
That presumes they have a particular “hot topic” they are Protesting?
European governments consider this group to be arrestable because of their ‘corking’ practice.
Because Critical Mass takes place without an official route or sanction they are an Illegal Assembly.
who needs them to be an illegal assembly? they blatantly ignore traffic laws. yeah, that’s a good lesson to teach people riding in the city, let’s just ignore the lights.
Critical Mass will end when one of their hotshots becomes luncheon meat slices of CTA bus and or Mack truck bread. And they’ll try to blame the motor vehicles.
Googling “Critical Mass Bike Ride” brought me this little Youtube gem:

I guess the cops in New York City aren’t as tolerant to the whole mass insurrection thing as we are!
I’m curious to know what that cyclist did before riding into camera view that made the Cop feel a need to knock him off his bike.
“Critical Mass will end when one of their hotshots becomes luncheon meat slices of CTA bus and or Mack truck bread.”
There have been several incidences of bike riders dying as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle during a Critical Mass event, and at least one of the incidences I know to have taken place in Chicago. None of this has affected the occurrence of CM in the slightest.
They’re so cute, cutting edge and revolutionary. All kinda smash the patriachy and everything.
They give me a warm feeling that makes me want to puke.
