Parking Enforcement Vehicle Involved In Collision
A few less parking tickets got issued in Chicago Wednesday.
A vehicle operated by LAZ Parking and marked with “Parking Enforcement”, was involved in a fender bender accident in the 3600 block of north Western Avenue late Wednesday afternoon.
The vehicle was apparently transporting three to four individuals armed with hand held computers for issuing parking tickets. Chicago Parking Meters, LLC, the operator of this city’s parking meter system, per the meter lease contract, has the right to conduct their own supplemental enforcement for expired meter violations. The company, resumed enforcement back in June after a 15 month hiatus.
From the damage observed to the front of the vehicle, and an eyewitness account of the position of the vehicles a few minutes after the collision, it seems the vehicle operated by LAZ struck the rear of another car involved in the incident.
Ultimately, the ticket writers never got to their assigned enforcement zones as a flat bed tow truck arrived to remove the LAZ vehicle, seemingly rendered inoperable by the collision, from the roadway.
Thanks to Ross P. for the tip and the photos.

Judging from the front damage it appears it was the LAZ driver’s fault. Probably going 15-20 MPH at time of impact. So was there a ticket issued?????
I have to hope they drug tested the driver like they would a City Employee.
Seems like half the people they employ are potential bangers and the other half are not worth discussing.
I actually hunt their cars during my shifts.
If they aren’t parked in a Metered space, they better be parked legal….I will ticket them.
Good, that reduces my normal level of cynicism.
I thought that the ticket writers work for Serco? Do they drive around in LAZ marked cars? Sneaky bastards.
DoR:
“I actually hunt their cars during my shifts”
Isn’t there some rule against selective enforcement? Not that there’s anything wrong with that as long as it’s not me!
Selective If I don’t enforce Equally.
Why would their cars be exempted from parking regulations outside of a metered space?
LAZ rules the city and its time people realize that…rates going up soon…and we will have to pay even though we hate them
Of course the driver got tested, same rules for everyone and ,,,, “potential bangers” lets not talk about you kids…now…. You Department of Rats should just do your job and shut the hell up… You ticket LAZ trucks that usually the technicians drive… Hello…. who is going to fix the paybox for the cars your writing a citation for idiot…. And yes we all all have to pay the meter
And by the way accidents happen people…
Gball…
Do me a favor….go back to Madison and Austin and let them know they need to get their cars legal.
Ya’ll bitch when we do our jobs…but you whine if we don’t.
Gee it’s almost like a turf war between the Crips and the Bloods except its LAZ (whatever that stands for) and the Department of Revenue! Sadly, we motorists get to play the part of the innocent bystanders getting cut down in a drive-by.
In the words of the great Mr. King “Can’t we all just get along?”
That would be Rodney not Martin Luther and we all know what happened to Rodney.
Rodney king is like the department of revenue…. by the the way…whining over paid scumbags…. rodney wouldnt have gotten his ass kicked if he didnt keep his mouth shut lol so the DOR learn yourself a godamn lesson thats why everything is getting leased just like when you you take your SOLD skyway to Da SOUTHSIDE!! lol and winky where the hell are we LA… chicago is run by folks and people
regardless who cares we all pay taxes lol the city is so expensive to live in if you cant deal with it move to INDIANA….
Guys,
I just love the expression of the dude with his hands over his face. Like, this was probably the cherry on the top of an already bad day. DOH!
I don’t know if Ross, who sent us the photo is a great photographer, or just darn lucky. The guy’s expression says it all.
It’s just an accident. It happens.
As long as no one got hurt, that’s all that matters.
Winky….CPM/Laz/SecCo II are a Joke.
Half the people I see working for them speak worse English than a 3 year old with palsy.
Ticket geek.. that guy was covering his face and so were the other gentlemen…. They tried to avoid the camera man…pretty obvious when u have your low life unemployed hipster wearing a camera or his neck in broad daylight what people should really be taking pictures of is those chain NEWPORT SMOKING revenue people… you’ll find half of them taking hour breaks at KFC and popeyes…..anyway thanks geek love ur site….all of those companys mentioned blow by the way ..
Gball- “Blow me”
Hey PEAs and SERCO/LAZ/CPM people out there.
Why is there so much bad blood between people writing tickets for the city and the private contractors writing tickets?
I’m really not trying to throw gas on the fire or being a smart ass here.
But I am curious why all the hate? Are there legitimate reasons either side can cite me in a reasoned way (without personal attacks, etc.)why the feud exists?
Again, I’m not looking for a flame war, but a reasonably calm and reasoned discussion. Because I’m not really sure I understand it completely.
Why is there bad blood?
The Laz Tech’s that maintain the boxes and just collect the monies are not a problem.
Ser Co writes Bullshit Tickets. Period.
20′ to a Crosswalk : When no Walk Sign (yellow/black crosswalk sign with Arrow Pointing Down to crosswalk) Present.
Expired City Sticker : On Out of State Plates. (Not Currently Legal to enforce without Confidential VIN check by Police Department, not something Ser Co is able to do.)
Outside of Metered Space: On cars NOT Parked in Pay Lots.
I’ve seen the bullshit.
I know others that have as well.
And we communicate it to Our Supervisors and Directors.
It’s bad enough to get a Ticket because you Forgot the Time or were Lazy and parked stupid.
No one that works for Revenue wants Anyone Cited for a Violation that isn’t there in the first place.
Jose, let’s not forget that it doesn’t help having members of management and security constantly ram down our throats about how good Serco supposedly is.
and by the way..LAZ doesnt stand for anything….do your research….its some dudes last name but shorter…..LAZ sucks no matter what it stands for though…but its not the workers fault…and i am sure alot of them speak horrible english….it is chicago
Ok, let me summarize this.
PEAs think some, if not many people working for SERCO, (which is already contracted for the city and also enforces for LAZ/CPM), are not as well trained and/or write a lot of bad tickets.
In addition, despite doing a sub par job and writing tickets that never should have been issued, SERCO people are praised by DOR management to PEAs at shift meetings for writing high volumes of tickets.
Is this a correct synopsis?
If this is the case, and/or the perception that SERCO writes a lot of bad tickets, I would guess PEAs get upset because the bad tickets reflect poorly on PEAs–as the public can’t distinguish between PEAs and SERCO–all ticket writers look the same to most people.
Is that possible as well?
Geek…that is a correct synopsis.
I’ve sat in meetings where the DoR Supervisor to Ser Co downright BRAG’s about the Numbers that Ser Co pulls in nightly. I’ve also sat in meetings where the same rep berates the numbers produced by Revenue PEA’s for the same day.
I’ve seen the Numbers that the various PEA sites pull in daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly. I know about the numbers the DoR pilot program is pulling in as well..and they are making the Sites look like Rank Amateurs.
My Understanding is that Ser Co has a Daily Quota. When you put a quota on Municipal Enforcement, problems arise.
I’ve seen tickets written by Ser Co that would get a PEA in trouble.
But that can also be said for Tickets written by CPD or TMA’s.
Correct Geek.
One point if I may…
My understanding is that CPM is paying Ser Co to enforce the Meters.
And the City is paying Ser Co to enforce the Meters also.
DoR-
Yes, yes, your clarification about SERCO is much clearer than my attempt to describe those relationships. Thank you.
DoR Employee-
“potential bangers”
“Half the people I see working for them speak worse English than a 3 year old with palsy”
wow this really shows how well educated you are…. judging people by there appearance very professional buddy…. you should go back to school and pick up an etiquette class….
Geek- I have no idea why this DoR Employee has a problem, or why there’s any bad blood… every time im at a meter and a DOR employee comes up to me its always a hey hi how you doing, we get along… i don’t know what this one in particular problem is…
Laz Tech…
We don’t mind you because you’re a Tech.
And I made that comment. Techs are just doing their jobs.
You’re not out there writing tickets improperly. Like Ser Co and Ser Co II staffers.
I speak over 6 million languages and have been programed in etiquette and protocol and have never had a complaint about my customer service skills.
Just to clarify DoR Employee does not speak on behalf of P.E.As. He speaks for himself. P.E.As and SERCO have very little interaction during work hours.Yes Serco writes bad tickets but so does Revenue,Tma, and CPD. There is no problems with Serco or LAZ. To the public all these departments look alike since they all carry a ticketbook. No one can distinguish one from another even though everyone is marked by their department.
Cliffjumper,
I think you’re right, drivers just see anyone writing a parking ticket as emanating from a single entity. Most people can’t distinguish who’s really who.
Drivers are just pissed when they get a ticket.
knowing the idiots as laz they’ll probably make the driver pay for the entire thing…
