Weekend Traffic Tips: Transformers, Festivals
UPDATE: Some intersections have traffic lights out due to last nights storm.
At Irving & Kedzie, a traffic light was knocked out of commission by a vehicle around 5 AM.
One lane of traffic south of Irving on Kedzie is blocked due to the light in the street. Despite a cop on the scene, traffic is backing up for nearly a mile in each direction on Irving. Eastbound traffic due to the Cubs game is especially nasty. Avoid both streets in that area if you can.
Traffic is being worsened by the policeman’s refusal to direct traffic.
This is getting a little monotonous.
But, Transformers 3 continues to film downtown.
Over the weekend, Wacker Dr. is tied up from State to Wabash. Streets re-open Monday morning at 5 AM.
Wabash will also be closed from Wacker to Lake.
Milwaukee Ave. Arts Festival
This relatively new festival will have Milwaukee Ave. closed from Diversey to Logan no doubt messing up traffic in that area.
Taste of Lincoln Avenue
Up north, Lincoln Ave. will be closed for the perennial Taste of Lincoln Ave., again screwing up another major street in the middle of Lincoln Park.
Despite my disdain for this particular festival, one has to give the organizers some real credit. Passing through that area several times over the past week, one could see the major effort put forth to warn drivers about the driving restrictions in that area. Kudos to them. The less cars towed, the better.
But, if driving near there, avoid the area at all costs.

Milwaukee Avenue is only closed to car traffic between Logan and Logan, and traffic can still go through by circling around the monument.
I encourage everyone to come out to experience this unique festival. The street closure is only a small part of the festival as it continues on Milwaukee from Diversey-ish south to California-ish. Would welcome your thoughts on the festival as well over at Peopling Places (click on my name).
I’m not surprised the cop isn’t directing traffic……..they could fuck up a wet dream.
