Lake Shore Drive Closed To Cars Sunday Morning
20,000 Bicyclists Expected For Bike The Drive Event
If you wake up early Saturday Sunday morning, and think taking a drive along the lakefront on Lake Shore Drive, to enjoy the sun rising over Lake Michigan would be a fantastic idea–think again.
Because starting at 5:30 AM on Saturday Sunday morning, the city will be close LSD, from Hollywood all the way to 59th Street for the ninth annual MB Financial Bank Bike The Drive event.
Instead of cars, buses and motorcycles speeding down the drive, an expected 20,000 bicyclists will pedal the 15 mile route.
The event is scheduled to end at 9:45 AM, but motor vehicle traffic won’t resume until 10:30 AM.
The event, is a fundraiser for the Active Transportation Alliance.

You mean the 30th?
The event is on Sunday not on Saturday
Yeah…right…Sunday.
How embarrassing. DOH!
I guess that’s what happens when you start your writing after 2 AM.
Corrections made.
Someone come kick me in the ass.
I still don’t understand why people would voluntarily pay good money to bike on the pothole-infested ribbon of hell that is LSD, when there’s a perfectly good, well maintained bike path right next to it that’s available every day for free.
Brian,
It’s obviously meant to be symbolic. They aren’t biking to get somewhere. They’re trying to raise awareness about bicycling on the streets in general. The only way to accomplish that is by doing something that drivers will notice.
And one fatality on Bike the Drive.
What day is set aside for cars to use the bike paths? 14th Amendment.
