If I’m on a motorcycle I may not have a roll of tape and a pen. If I do have thoes things, maybe someone took my receipt as it is not secured. I am not aware of any law that requires a motorcycle to carry a roll of tape and a pen.
This is just another instance of this city’s ineptitude. The examples never end…
I have a scooter. This city treats scooter owners like SH!T–despite charging us the same for parking a vehicle 1/6-1/8 the size of a car, which happens to get 4-8x more city MPG than most cars. Parking tickets cost the same, again, despite 1/6-1/8 the size. (Look at that, scooters allow for 6-8x the parking ticket revenue per spot!) The “city sticker” tabs, which are too easy to steal, cost the same regardless whether I’m riding a 25cc motorized bicycle (think 2-stroke riding lawnmower engine) or 1200cc crotch rocket. But if my tab got stolen, would you give me a break? Probably not…
The only break we get is the ability to park in residential permit areas. But too many of your ilk don’t know that law and still ticket us $60 for a residential permit parking violation, which we now have to defend against. To add, where would this zone permit # go on the metal “city sticker” tab? How are we supposed to affix the one day permits?
And let’s not discount the possibility that some A55 HOLE will just take the Pay & Display receipt off just to be a jerk…
Coming up with a solution to the problem, even a half-assed one, would involve too much thinking for our Dear Leader Daley and his alder-lemmings.
Personally, I’m waiting for the group representing nearsighted arthritic lesbians who still have their periods to come out of the woodwork any day now. Why? Because the new pay boxes don’t dispense ez-open non-phallic tampons with large print instructions.
Seriously…
Did this technology drop out of the sky yesterday?
Is there no other place in the US that has:
a) Cars
2) Pay Boxes
d) Motorcycles and Mopeds
What do they do, uhm…. let’s see…. EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE FRIGGIN WORLD?!?!?!?
They have pay boxes motorcycles and a shitload of mopeds in Europe don’t they? WHAT DO THEY DO THERE????
As if there are tens of thousands of motorcycles and mopeds riding around town IN THE F*CKING WINTER!!!
I say if you have the balls to ride either a motorcycle or moped with all the potholes, shitty drivers and last but not least, cold enough to freeze your balls to your thigh (replace with tits to your shoulder blades if you’re a female), YOU SHOULD GET TO PARK FOR FREE! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
Dude you seriously have a face for radio. I liked your link for the Login cable lock for the receipts but thought it was a bit on the pricey side. I have seen a few nice Harleys and Ninjas with luggage tags hanging from the handlebars and the receipt inside. I wouldn’t want to “stick” anything on my shiny bike either and thought that was a neat alternative idea.
Americans are ingenious at solving annoying little problems. Just look at the whole Snuggie blanket with sleeves thing! I say you market a “PMG MC Receipt Holder” with your mug on it and sell it here for a modest fee. At the very least it will scare away pigeons and small children from your ride.
Motorcyclists who receive an erroneous residential permit ticket don’t necesarily need to contest it. I talked to someone at ABATE about it. ABATE worked with the City so that those tickets are automatically withdrawn. That said, I’d probably check the ticket status online just to make sure…
I am looking forward to seeing that action figure. Perhaps the City may sell it at the city store. Also, you made some excellent points last nite.

Before you start accusing city employees of ineptitude, please make sure it is a “city employee” and not a private contractor. We have all been properly trained in the ordinance for Residential Permits.
Mark,
You make some very valid points. I don’t have a clue has how to resolve the parking on Pay & Display boxes. Maybe PTG has an idea or two
Peter Parker,
I agree with you. I’ve met some hard core bikers and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them will drive in the winter.

City Employees, as private citizens, are permitted to express their personal opinions under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. City employees will not be investigated, prosecuted, interfered with or harassed as punishment or retaliation for engaging in conduct protected by the First Amendment.
Facts… It’s good to hear that there’s a RUMOR that those tickets are automatically thrown out. That being said, if I actually paid the ticket, would the city refuse to cash my check or send me a check in the mail repaying me? NO FU(KING WAY.
Ticketmaster… Sorry, but I view everyone who issues tickets as being an agent of the city, regardless of whether that person’s an employee or contractor. The city turns a blind eye to some ticket issuers who are doing a half-assed job. So guess what–you’re all doing a half-assed job.
PTG-I’m actually looking into sending a FOIA request to the city over parking tickets. I’m specifically looking for info on payment, withdrawal, contesting, etc. scenarios for “impossible” parking ticket scenarios (i.e. residential permit parking for motorcycles/scooters, tinted windows for non-IL cars (legal per state law), no front plate issued to cars from MI, IN, KY, etc.) The article about Feddor and his 0 license plate gave me the idea (i.e. how could a passenger car get a residential truck ticket?–There are NO safeguards?) I think the results would be damning and might even spur a well-deserved class-action lawsuit against the city…
Dude, hell yeah I have a face for radio. Why the hell do you think I obscure my face? To prevent needless suffering. The world already has enough of that.
As far as the clear receipt holder, I know about the one you mentioned. But I think, China has the same thing for 1 cent a piece. Seriously.
Facts-
I want to believe you on the ABATE thing, but I’m a bit skeptical. None of the other motorcycle/scooter riders I’ve talked to know anything about it. Can you get me info?!?
If this is true, I would love, LOVE to write about this and publicize it. Please get back to me if you can.
1PBFoot-
Keep me posted on your FOIA.
The thing is, in those impossible situations, you’re right, there are no safeguards (and I don’t know how they get implemented honestly). I guess you could probably set up in their database some checks for inconsistencies or logic flaws and just throw out the ticket.
Currently, it’s up to the motorist to catch the mistake and contest the ticket. Obviously a big pain in the butt and a waste of precious time
Seriously, I think you may be on to something. Keep me up to date or if you need guidance or help–I’m here.
Just an FYI. I’m trying to make a list of all the weaknesses in the muni code that need to be addressed to see if they can get fixed.
P.S. Respectfully, I disagree with your thoughts about ticket writers. In my view, like any profession, some people do a poor job, most do an OK job and some do their damndest to excel at their job. There are some bad ticket writers out there, but I don’t believe you can lump the good with the bad. It’s not my fair in my humble opinion.
Ticketmaster-
As always, thank you for the great input. I owe you an e-mail with an update or two.
Ticketmasters Disclaimer is the result of Turanna Cochran-Persons erronious statement that Blogging is against the City Code of Conduct.
But then….Turanna is a clout baby thanks to Alderman Willie B. Cochran of Ward 20.

whats the problem???? are the instructions that hard???? buy the receipt……put your licensce plate on it…..tape it to the light or mirror…..

IP. Yes, “whore” is probably accurate. Sadly.
I am working on a Parking Ticket Geek action figure that should be ready for the holidays. Check your local Toys R Us after Thanksgiving.
Here’s my potential solutions.
1-Go back to adhesive backed receipts in all pay boxes.
2-Go to China, buy 10,000 clear receipt pouches that can be attached to motorcycles. They’ll cost about 2 cents a piece.
Give them out FREE to anyone who can produce a motorcycle license registration or receipt for Chicago city sticker for a motorcycle/scooter.
3-Let them park free like PP says.
