Hearings On Parking Meter Lease Cancelled

Very quietly Thursday afternoon, hearings on the parking meter lease deal, which were planned for Monday morning’s Finance Committee meeting, were canceled without explanation.

Finance Committee Chairman, Ald. Ed Burke, in a one sentence statement, canceled the meeting that was originally scheduled several weeks ago.

“Notice is hereby given, that the Committee on Finance that was to meet Monday, May 18, 2009 at 11 A.M. in the City Council chamber, 2nd floor, City Hall, Chicago, Illinois is hereby canceled,” the document says.

This cancellation comes suspiciously, just 24 hours before the city’s Friday press release, addressing the multitude of issues with the transition of the parking meters from the city to the new lessee.

Unconfirmed reports claim the hearings will be rescheduled for later in the week.

The Parking Ticket Geek is very disappointed, as he had already laid out his jeans with the least number of holes, ironed my favorite T-shirt (I’m With Stupid) and polished his best sneakers for the meeting.
